Bollywood -town's power wives

B-town's power wives - Bollywood1

You may not have known Kiran Rao before she married Aamir Khan, but you would have idolised Madhuri Dixit before she became Madhuri Dixit Nene. Both women are symbolic of wives who've effortlessly glided into different roles in real life. They have changed their lives to accept the fame and relentless scrutiny which comes hand-in-hand with glamour. Or, they have stepped away from the public eye to set up a home and tend to family. Whatever the choice, these women have held on to their seat of power-away from-or in front of the world. Take a look.

Gauri Khan: She recently walked the ramp with superstar husband Shahrukh Khan for Karan Johar's show at the India Couture Week. Along with parenting two children, Aryan and Suhana, she together with Shahrukh, is part-owner and part-producer of the production company, Red Chillies Entertainment.
Suzanne Khan: Now this star wife certainly knows how to tackle those stinky issues. After a lot was being said about Hrithik and Barabara Mori's great chemistry, the lady maintained all her grace and dignity and rubbished rumours without saying a word. She just made a lot of dashing appearances with Hrithik. Now Suzanne is back to her beautiful world of interior designing.
Kiran Rao: She had been Ashutosh Gowarikar's assistant for a long time till her little love story with Aamir came alive. The two tied the knot 4 years ago in 2005. Since then there has been no looking back for Kiran and she has been actively pursuing her passion for direction.
Twinkle Khanna: She had a lot of expectations to meet. Before marriage she was always subject to comparison with her super sexy mom - Dimple Kapadia. And after marriage she has an extremely talented husband - Akshay Kumar who keeps pushing his own limits. But Twinkle has managed well. She opened her own interior design store in Mumbai called 'The White Window', in partnership with her long time friend Gurlein Manchanda. Since then, the store has received a prestigious Elle Decor International Design Award. Now Twinkle has plans to open chains of her store all over India.

Kajol: She chose to get married at a time when she was at her professional best. But that hasn't stopped Kajol from acting. In fact she is very active in all her husband's home productions and also takes up selected movies. Kajol has remained in the public eye with selective ad campaigns and as a celebrity judge on reality TV.
Madhuri: She broke a million hearts when she left Bollywood behind for marriage. But the 'Dhak Dhak' girl could not stay away for long and made a meaningful comeback with 'Devdas'. She is still considering scripts but will take them up only when she is fully convinced of their merit.
Jaya Bachchan: Gauri Khan swore by Jaya Bachchan in an television interview and so do most star wives. Jaya is exemplary in the way she has not only carried her marriage and brought up her children, but also how she revived her marriage.
Raveena Tandon: Raveena is a classic story in herself. She has had an all expansive career as an actress where she showed her talent in all genres. Not many people know about this but Raveena adopted two children Pooja and Chhaya, as a single mother in the 1990s. Ever since her marriage, she has been actively involved in charity and now the buzz is that she is all set to make a comeback!
Karisma Kapoor: Her film career needs no description. She had a grand engagement with Abhishek Bachchan but then it all went wrong (nobody knows what) and the engagement broke. Following this, Karisma married Delhi-based businessman, Sanjay Kapur. Now she is all set to become a businesswoman herself as she is starting a chain of fitness centers. The buzz is that she will share the enterprise with little sis Kareena. Given the perfect bods of the two sisters, we are sure any chain started by them will be a success.

Hit movies, family time - stars want for Diwali

Share Diwali with the stars

Diwali with Bollywood stars

Some stars are hoping that their films will hit the jackpot; others have decided to spend time with family.

New Delhi, Oct 15 (IANS) Three multi-starrers are releasing just a day before Diwali and most Bollywood stars are hoping that their films will hit the jackpot during the festive season. Also, spending quality time with the family on the festival of lights is equally high on their wish list.
Anthony D'Souza's 'Blue', Rohit Shetty's 'All The Best' and Prem Soni's 'Main Aurr Mrs Khanna' will simultaneously hit screens Friday and are expected to give tough competition to one another.

Actress Lara Dutta, who is already creating waves with her svelte figure in underwater thriller 'Blue', hopes for a 'bumper Diwali' with the movie, which is being touted as India's most expensive till date.

'I'm hoping that 'Blue' does well and my Diwali becomes a bumper Diwali. Diwali is a festival meant to be celebrated with family, but last year I was shooting in Singapore for 'Do Knot Disturb'. This year I'll be spending time with my close ones,' said Lara.

For Bipasha Basu, who features alongside Ajay Devgn, Fardeen Khan and Mugdha Godse in the laugh riot 'All The Best', this Diwali will be a huge celebration as it coincides with her mother's birthday.

'My film is releasing on Oct 16 and my mother's birthday is on the same day. My new house has also been just done up; so we will celebrate the first Diwali get-together-cum-puja there. I'll eat a lot of sweets and will say no to the gym on Diwali day,' Bipasha told IANS.

Diwali was lucky for model-turned-actress Mugdha Godse as her debut film 'Fashion' was released during the festival time last year and she had received accolades for her performance. This time too she is hoping for a similar response with 'All The Best' and has plans to tag her family along for the movie.

'I'm going to be in Pune with my family this year. We are all going to watch 'All The Best' on Oct 16 as I've booked a whole theatre for them. I hope it does well,' said Mugdha.

'On Diwali day, I'll have breakfast with my family and then in the evening decorate my place with diyas and perform Lakshmi poojan. I'll also be spending the whole weekend in Pune before coming back to Mumbai and resuming work from 19th onwards,' she added.

Even though composer-actor Himesh Reshammiya's upcoming movie 'Radio' isn't releasing around the festival of lights, he said he 'will pray that the film does well'. 'Radio' will release Dec 3.

There are others like Deepika Padukone, Malaika Arora Khan and Shekhar Suman among others who have decided to spend quality time with family and loved ones.

'I will be with my family,' Deepika said when asked about her Diwali plans.

Malaika, who is at present a mentor on Star Plus' show 'Perfect Brides', says that Diwali is a perfect occasion for a family reunion.

'Be it Deepavali, Eid or Christmas -- every festival that gets our families together is celebrated in our house with the same fanfare and gusto. For us, it is just an excuse to get together and celebrate the essence of the festival.

'While the normal preparations of spring cleaning, festive shopping for crackers, sweets and diyas are on, I believe that festivals like Diwali are the perfect occasion for a family reunion and a celebration of these special moments with our loved ones,' she said.

Diwali this year is extra special for one-film-old actor Rajniesh Duggall as he is going to be a father soon.

'This Diwali has bought in great news for me. My wife is expecting and I am thrilled that I will become a father very soon. I am celebrating the festival with my in-laws in Delhi this time.

'Since my wife is expecting, I have planned a small family and friends get- together at our house. I have bought aroma candles which I shall be gifting to everyone,' he said.

Shah Rukh Khan | My Name is Khan

Catch the first look of the Shah Rukh-Kajol starrer My Name is Khan which is set for an October 2009 release.

My Name is Khan is being directed by Karan Johar.

This is the first time since Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham that Shah Rukh and Kajol are coming together for an entire film.

While Karan Johar is tight-lipped about the plot of the film, it is rumoured that the story revolves around a Muslim man and how he deals with life in the US after the Spetember 11, 2001 attacks.

There were also rumours that SRK plays an autistic man in the film.

The team of My Name is Khan missed the IIFA awards because they were shooting the film in San Francisco.

It was also rumoured that Kajol refused the outdoor shooting schedule because she didn't want to leave her daughter Nyasa in Mumbai and go to the US. (

Shah Rukh Khan is currently embroiled in a controversy regarding certain statements he allegedly made against the Islamic Prophet Mohammad.

Both SRK and the magazine that printed the interview have openly declared that it was a printing error, and yet some members of the community are enraged and have got a fatwa issued against SRK for his 'anti-Islamic' statements.

It is being reported that Karan Johar is so shook up with this backlash that he is taking extra care to go over the script of his film to ensure that he doesn't make any comments that can hurt any religious community.

Earlier this year there were reports that some Muslim members of the My Name is Khan unit were detained in the US and frisked and questioned. (

Apparently, there are huge crowds even in the US that gathered each time SRK and Kajol shot together for My Name is Khan.

The crowds that gathered to watch SRK and Kajol make so much noise that shots had to be retaken a number of times, pushing the schedule of the film a great deal.

There have been reports that Karan Johar is scouting on the streets of New York for a look alike of US President Barack Obama.

The expectations of My Name is Khan are very high as Shah Rukh and Kajol are one of India's favourite on-screen couples.

Speculation is rife that the Bollywood stars will be coming together for the sequel to 1994 runaway hit, Andaz Apna Apna, which was produced by Raj Kumar Santoshi, but there are reports which mention that Aamir Khan is not very keen on doing the sequel.

The two stars, whose fight started during the shooting of Andaaz Apna Apna had continued till the release of Aamir Khan's Ghajini in 2008. It came to an end only after Salman gifted a Ghajini poster painted by him to Aamir.

The additional cast, director as well as other aspects of the movie is yet to be finalized and the script is under development.

"Salman and Aamir will have equal footage in the film. The rest of the cast is being finalised and the director will also soon be on board," quoted Mumbai Mirror as the words of a source, who is close to the movie.
